I want my husband to build some bunk beds for my kids, 2 and 5. I am trying to figure out if buying some used ones at about $100 (with mattresses) is a lot better than taking the time and money to build some.
What do you think?

if you have the tools to build your own and can get good price on oak or pine, I would build my own but it is not easy. if you dont have the tools or the time, I would definitely buy a used one for a 100 dollars. it would be much cheaper.

I will be starting my freshman year this fall and I will be staying in Hassayampa’s Education Residential College and I have no idea what to buy. I visited one dorm where they removed the desk underneath the bunk bed and put in a futon. I was wondering if this would be a good idea, and if so what should I do with the desk? Thanks for the help!

I’d work on the essentials first and figure out how to remove the desk later. You’ll need to meet with your RA or call residence services about moving the desk; you’re typically not allowed to do it without permission. They’ll tell you where it should be put, if it’s allowed to be removed from the room. It’s a nice idea, if you don’t mind doing your homework on your bed or lap. But if you prefer a hard surface for your laptop or notebooks, double think removing the desk before you do so.

If you have a roommate(s), you should call or e-mail them and double check that you guys don’t bring the same thing. Dorms are very small, so there’s really no need for two mini-fridges if you guys can share. Same for TVs, couches, etc. Keep in mind that some dorms come with mini-fridges, or they rent them, so call your college and check this out.

Storage is usually a big issue in dorms, so visit Target or Walmart or Bed, Bath, and Beyond or somewhere and look for under-bed storage containers, or stackable cubes that you can put all your books/CDs/etc. in, and all that stuff.

Otherwise, just bring what would make the dorm "home" to you, because that’s what it’ll be for the next nine months. A nice floor lamp? A cute area rug? Posters for the walls, or a beaded curtain for the doorway? Anything that you can think of to decorate and personalize your dorm.

I have a boy and a girl…they share a room right now, Age 5 and 2. We just got them bunk beds and I would like to know what colors would be good to paint there from for them both… Good colors that will be for boy and girl and that way people know it is for both kids… here is the bed room set we got them…. http://www.ivansmith.com/pag_product_id_1715_p_4431-mocha-brookhaven.html
oh and what would be a good type of floor to put in there carpet, title WHAT??? what would be good

There are lots of good carpet options out there… I’d trek down to your local home depot and ask about stain resistant carpets. There are plenty out there that are soft and virtually stain-proof. As for colors, I would go with a soft yellow, or a mid-toned warm green. I think the latter would look stunning with the furniture you picked out. You could also do blue… blue is a much more gender neutral color than it used to be, and it’s also a calming color, which might help in getting them to sleep. ^_^ Nothing too bright or intense, since it’s a bedroom and not just a playroom. Hope that’s helped!

yea so i have a bunk bed , one twin on full sized bed . im obsessed with zebra & leopard & basically any animal print . i dont care about colors because im painting my room over ;) just anything but light pink -eww ; please include cute nick nacks i can put around my room

I think you need to check this out. I went to walmart.com–bedding–in the find box I put in zebra print bedding and they had satin sheet sets for $19.88-$26.88. Microfiber bed in a bag for $40,00-$55.00. Check out knick knacks in black or white. Or go to a thrift store and find some unique items or repaint them. I wouldn’t want to sleep on the satin sheets, but the flat one would make great curtains and the fitted one you could make pillows or use as the back side to some zebra fur found at a fabric store. Have fun!! Roxanne
