I have a 14 month old daughter who never slept in her crib and currently sleeps on the floor in her room. I have decided I want to buy her a twin bed so that she is more comfortable. However, I was thinking that I do plan on having another child in the near future and if I were to buy her a twin bed by the time the next child grows up I would have to throw it out/resell it so I can buy a bunk and that seems to be a waste of money. At the same time, if I were to buy a bunk bed from now it just seems funny to me lol. Oh yeah, I won’t consider TWO twin beds because the room is really small.
Are there any other options out there? I was thinking also I could buy a twin bed and then if I were to have another child I could buy an attachment to make a bunk bed? Is that even possible?
Wow such great answers, not sure which to pick as best. Thanks for the suggestions everybody =)
Again, thank you all for your suggestions and support. =)
we bought a twin over full bunk style for our 18 months old, we had his brother 2 months later. He LOVES it and it saved us from buying a bunch of beds for a short amount of time. His brother is now 14 months and clearly has interest in moving in already (lays in bed after we read bed time stories and pulls the comforter up over himself with a smile ) So we may be moving him in much earlier than we anticipated!
PS for safety reasons, we bought the bunk style with steps (and storage drawers in the steps) not a ladder to go up to the bunk. May be something to consider — also note that the AAP recommendations are for bunk sleepers to be 6 y.o.
I think it is a good idea.I think you can buy beds that allow an attachment later on.Check around in bed stores and I am sure the sales people can give you all that info!I would think the same way about it being kind of funny, but it is great planning for the future!

I think buying her a twin bed is a good idea. She may see that she can look like shes all grown up if shes in it. As someone who has helped raise a families youngest son, I know when it looks to be about time to get a "big boy or girl bed" its up to you, but if she never sleeps in her crib, I dont think she will sleep in a bed. Worse thing ya can do is buy one, and if she dosent want to stay in it and winds up on the floor, you can return it. Good luck! Happy parenting!

I wouldnt be putting a young child into bunks, the fall risk is just to great even with safety rails etc
How about a trundle bed under the twin. Just as space saving as bunks but not falling from great heights

Just buy the bunk bed and you will have a place for two children to sleep. Have your 14-month old sleep on the bottom and when the next one reaches her age…put the oldest on the top and the youngest on the bottom.
I did this with my first two and it worked out great.

Personally, I would go for a toddler bed. They can be had fairly cheaply on CraigsList or at a consignment shop, and the size/height of the bed will not be so overwhelming for her. When you actually need bunk beds, you’ll probably be able to re-sell the toddler bed for the same as what you paid for it (via CraigsList.org).
