does anyone know what size screws/nuts/bolts I need to put together a C Style Full Futon Bunk Bed ? ?
I received the frame free from freecycle today, but it came without any nuts and bolts. I’ve looked a tons of websites, but cant find intsructions anywhere.
it came with a shank nut and bolt . the nut looks like a bolt with the thread on the inside . with a good reason why . the threads will eat up the thin tubing and ruin your bead . . just another answer that that guy above me screwed up . Richard
and yes you can get the nuts and bolts at hardware store just tell them what you are putting together,
Dear Not Screwed,
I have no idea what you do or do not know about hardware so if this is too simplified for your personal skill set I apologize in advance… Nearly all beds take the same length, shaft size and thread bolt which is 1/4 – 20 X 31/2 ( That is a 1/4″ wide shaft with twenty threads per inch with a length of 3 1/2″) You will additionally need one nylar 1/4-20 nut and a 1/4 flat washer for each penetrating hole. Each fastener should be tightened to no more than 10 lbs.ft. or as hard as you can using a one foot long wrench and the weakest part of your pinky finger. If the hole doesn’t go all the way through use a bolt with a 3″ shaft. The look that best matches your bed is up to you. Specialty head bolts are in the pull out drawers in the hardware section across from fireplaces in Lowe’s.

I was also going to say 1/4 20 bolts with washers and nuts. The length depends on the thickness of the wood though. You don’t want to use 3 1/2 inch bolts in 2 inches of wood. somebody will get poked,, ouch.
When the bolt is tight, you only want 1/8 to 1/4 inch of bolt out past the nut. Any more is just wasted and should be cut off and filed smooth.
