ok, i have 3 kids. Two girls and a boy. I am trying to find a bed for my girls to sleep in.My 3 1/2 yr old sleeps in the bed with us, my 16 month old sleeps in her room in her playpen.(she won’t sleep in crib) I don’t have a lot of space in their room(moving them into one room). i was thinking bunk beds with the staircase, but then i decided not to, cause my 3 1/2 yr old likes to jump off things and teaching her little sister. well what about a full size bed? do u think they will sleep in the same bed all night? The bad thing is, they go to bed at different times. any suggestions??? if you have 2 kids of same sex and don’t have much space..how do u have their sleeping arrangements. just curious on how other household does? My oldest already has a twin bed, she just doesn’t sleep in it!!
i have 3 kids, my lil guy is a newborn and wont need his own room for awhile, but i would like to go ahead and move the girls. I don’t have another room. i only have 3 bdrooms.

When I had that situation I had a unique set up…Basically the one bed slipped under a corner table that gave us back the floor space. The beds were something like this http://bedzine.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/twin.jpg But you could push the one under the table.

Your other option is a daybed with a trundle but it;s a pain to pull in and out every single night.

Bunk beds, or no bunk beds?

I think bunk beds sound like a good option, because they will be able to grow into them.

You’ll just have to teach her not to jump off. Explain to her that beds are not a jungle gym and we don’t jump off the bed because you can get hurt. Something like this would be good, because they aren’t as high up as regular bunk beds:

Make your oldest sleep in their bed, the 16 month old can stay in the play pen, and turn the crib into a day bed for the 3 1/2 year old. Or you can get a trundle bed for the 3 1/2 year old which slides under the twin bed and get rid of the crib since your 16 month old doesn’t use it.

One big bed may be a bad idea. Kids tend to fight over things a lot, even if the child is well behaved. One of your children may end up on the floor because of the other one pushing them off.

just put the 16 month on top but put up some sort of guard rail so she doesn’tt fall off and the 3 yr ld can have the bottom and wont jump off

Even if they have different bed times, it isn’t a factor. You could put them in the same room, but be cautious about this. The 6 month child has a potential to disturb the 3.5 year old. Try to find solutions, like buying another bed for the 3.5 year old child.

I have a 4 year-old and a 8 month-old who share a room, but not a bed. Baby still is in the cot. They both go to bed at the same time, usually around 8.00pm. In order to have them both tired and ready at the same time, I need to control their naps a bit more. I won’t let the 4 year-old take a nap after 2.30pm - if he missed it, that’s too bad!
As for the baby, he gets playtime, bath and dinner from about 5.00pm and then stays up until 8.00pm. They like to be in the same room. Sometimes I can still hear talking and giggling after the lights are out so there’s no drama.
I wouldn’t put them in the same bed though. Kids move a lot in bed ("Honey, did you hear a thump?"…) and it’s not uncommon that we find the 4 year-old sleeping with his feet on the pillow in the morning. That’s when he doesn’t fall off! In my opinion, two young kids could and probably would kick each other all night. And I agree that bunk beds seem too dangerous too.
What about one of those single beds that has another single bed underneath, tucked in the drawer? You pull it out for the night and put it back in during the day. And if they fall, they won’t fall from high.

Sleeping in the same bed is no good. Kids at school would comment on it. Bunk beds should be fine. You will just have to police the jumping situation. If you make a big enough deal out of it she will listen.

My 2 year old has a Queen that sits right next to my 3 soon to be 4 year olds toddler bed. My older child gets the toddler bed because lightning mcqueen does not come in a larger size. They sleep in a tiny room because we are renting and it is the warmest room in the house. But the beds are wall to wall so it actually helps because no one falls out. You probably shouldn’t put them together in a big bed because it might be harder to get them to sleep.

I agree. The trundle bed is a really good idea!

Okay..here are my thoughts and i hope they help you.

    1. Bunk beds with ladder out of the question… Possibly okay for the 3.5 year old but should not be in the same room as the 16 month old. I know my son (20 mos) would be climbing it like crazy and would fall and get hurt. A 3 year old can take directions from you but a 16 month old would see it as a jungle gym. The 16 month old really needs a toddler bed so that when she falls out of bed *my son fell out of his last night rolling around* its not a far fall.

    2. I suggest taking the crib mattress out of the crib and putting it on the floor for the 16 month old until she can move to a regular bed. The crib mattress is the same mattress you use for a toddler bed.

    3. I would def. get the 3 year old a twin bed or day bed.

    4. When the girls are older a full bed would work…but they will probably get on each others nerves so i really suggest getting two twin beds and putting them on either sides of the rooms so that they are away from each other as much as possible. Girls will bicker and this will give them their ‘own’ space and save themselves and you lots of headaches…but this is just thinking ahead.

Hope I helped and good luck to you :)

PS …my best friend has 2 daughters 4 and 2 and this is what she does and really seems to work well :).
