are bunk beds really safe?

okay i have heard about the common injury of a child falling from top bunk, and ladder injuries.. BUT has anyone ever heard of the top bunk actually collapsing?? i have a five year old son and looking into a big boy bed for him.. really want to do the bunk bed thing with a full on bottom and store stuffed animals on twin up top.. but i am an overly worried mother, cant help it!

Hell no they’re not! I had one growing up I broke my arm and got a concussion from falling off in my sleep! And then when I switched to the bottom bunk fuzz from the box springs above me got in my eye and scratched my cornea and gave me a bad cough from breathing it in in my sleep.

Carnival Cruise Line... HELP!!!?

My son got bunkbeds when he was 4 and he was allowed to start sleeping in the top at 5. They are great, I know many parents who have them and never hear of accidents. Just be sure you don’t let him stand up in the top or play wild up there. Top bunk is off limits to my son when he has friends over– when they are in a group, they often lose forsight and otherwise good judgment skills.

If you are still worried, I have a friend who’s husband put ply-wood walls all around the bed all the way up to the ceiling (leaving opening to get into each bed of course) and painted it all to be a castle. It’s really cool and their girls use it as a playhouse constantly.

Just tell him he cant play on the top bunk, because he might fall off and hurt himself, i had 2 bunk beds in my room at his age, and i didn’t get hurt lol but my mom really didn’t care because i also had an older sister i shared my room with.

if it did collapse I am sure you could sue. My kids have bunk beds. They are fine. My oldest slept on top at 4. We had a twin over full. I think that you is=dea of using the top as storage is a good idea, Just know that your 5 year old WILL climb up there : ).. My son’s first bunk bed was a 20 year old ahnd me down- it never collapsed. he know has a gigantic metal loft bed.
