My two boys have shared a room for years. Now, at ages 8 and 10 they are asking for their own rooms. My youngest will keep the bunk beds in his room, but we have to buy a new bed for my 10 year old. I go back and forth as to what size bed we should buy him. A twin size bed would definitely be cheaper, but I was thinking a full size bed he could have as he gets older and would come in handy if we have company. Can any of you help me out? Would a young boy really need a full size bed? We are not rich people so money is kind of an issue. But, buying a bed is an important purchase and I want to make a good decision. Thank you!

A full size bed is not really needed right now he is still young and you already have sheets and blankets for a twin. I had a twin size bed up until I was about 15 and the only reason I got a new on was because I was the youngest and still living with my parents when they moved. I say because of a money issue go with the twin so you don't have to shell out extra for new sheets and blankets. which do cost you more in the long run. the company thing… buy an air mattress when you know some one is coming and let them sleep on that. there are some nice ones out there… I have two that were about $30 a piece but are queen size and and when they are fully blown up they are like two mattresses on top of each other. better go with the twin. you never know what you will need that extra money for

are bunk beds really safe?

If you wanna save money, buy him a futon. They're available in twin and full size and they're way cheaper. He'll probably love it too because he can fold it up into a sofa when he's hanging out with friends, doing homework or watching tv (if he has one in his room).

If you have an Ikea near by, go there. Great prices and quality. Good luck.

Twin will be fine. If the bunk beds come apart then they can each have their bed without buying a new bed!

Twin, save the money. I slept in a twin size bed through high school. Dorm room furniture in college is also twin (so he'll be used to it!). I didn't buy a bigger bed until getting married. I definitely think that full size is overkill unless you really plan to use it as a guest room frequently. It will also take up more floor space and make the room smaller, so if he doesn't need it, that is also kind of a waste.
