What would YOU do in this situation?

We got a twin bed for my son who will be two in May. He LOVES his big boy bed! But it smells like cigars and I do not want him to sleep on in anymore because he wakes up smelling like it. We have tried everything to remove the oder and even covered it in a plastic thing . It still reeks!

Anyway, my best friend is selling a bunk bed with a full size mattress on bottom and a twin on top. Everything is in great condition! It is also a lot lower that his current mattress, so much easier for him to get into. She wants $100. This includes clean (non-stinky) mattresses as well.

My husband would rather get him a brand new toddler bed and a cheap toddler mattress from Wal-Mart.com. This will take at least a week and my son will be sleeping on the smelly bed all that time! This will total $100 as well.

The ladder to the top bunk on the bunk bed cannot be removed at it is part of what holds the bed together, but it CAN be covered up so my son cannot climb it. That is the only way onto the top bunk.

Can anyone give what they would do and the reasons?

I would take the bunk bed. $100 is a price you can not beat. The toddler bed will go to waste in a couple years where as the bunk bed will last forever (as long as it doesn’t break). My kids just think bunk beds are the coolest thing ever for some reason, so I’m sure your son will like it when he is older. Plus a full bed is nice and big to for a teenager. Just keep the ladder covered and your all set<3

Should my 10 and 3 year old sons share a bedroom?

i personally wouldn’t get a bunk bed. even assuming he can’t figure out a way to climb or remove the cover on the ladder (which could be disastrous), bottom bunks aren’t great for snuggling a toddler before bed, reading to them, or for them eventually reading to themselves (they tend to be dark). i’d personally skip the toddler bed entirely because i think they’re a waste of money. we got our kids regular beds when they were about 18 months and put the box spring and mattress directly on the floor so there wasn’t far to fall, and it worked great for all of them.

1-800-mattress will deliver the next day, if you feel like it’s a huge hurry (or you can have him sleep in your bed until the new bed comes).

Personally I would go with the bunk since it would be able to grow with him more and since you are able to cover the ladder part it would be safe. It would save money in the long run. I mean $100 for a toddler bed and then who knows how much when he gets to big for that.

Cost wise, go with what your best friend has. My 3 year olds crib turns into a toddler bed. Although she is a tall 3y/o she has just about outgrown the bed, maybe a couple more inches. So saying you’ll have to invest in another bed VERY soon. The old bed you can get a carpet cleaner with an attachment and "wash" it. I haven’t bought a used bed before, but we ever so often clean our beds, which HELPS so much. Either way, if you’re getting a new one, it would be a waste to get a toddler bed.

Well, I have two sons and I want a bunk bed when my younger one turns two, so I’d go for the bunk bed. Sounds like a great deal.

I’d go with the bunk bed. Just put the ladder part towards the wall so he can’t climb it.

If his bedroom was larger then I would go with the bunk bed. The bunk bed will also come in handy when he has friends sleep over. If his room is on the smaller side I would go with the new twin bed. You should be able to find a good price on a twin bed just don’t get a headboard just yet. Why not let him sleep on the couch until a different bed comes or put his old crib mattress on the floor until then.

Some of my kids favorite memories center around their old bunk bed. It had a full size bed on the bottom and was wonderful for snuggling up with them and a couple of flashlights reading together. They also loved making a fort out of the bottom bunk. The top bunk was where the stuffed animals slept until the kids were 6, then they took turns. However, we were able to remove the ladder completely. Even so, they managed to figure out how to climb to the top bunk without a ladder by about 3 years of age.

Toddler beds are a waste of money. They won’t last very long at all.
First choice would be a brand new regular bed (no bunk), but the bunk is the next best thing.

Having never met your kid I can tell you that there is nothing on earth that would keep my toddler from climbing a ladder or bunk beds.

I’d probably go with the new bed and new mattress. Why does going to Walmart take a week?

I would not let him sleep on smelly cigar bed ANYMORE because whatever toxins are in cigars then they are getting on your son. You are the parent. You explain to your child about the bed and get rid of it now. Do you guys let a 2 year old tell you what to do? I would go and get the bed from Walmart. Funny that they dont have it in stock. Go to another Walmart or another store and get a new bed! Avoid the bunk bed because that is just asking for accidents with a 2 year old even if the stairs are covered up.
